History
Camp Longbeach was founded by the YMCA of Canberra in the 1960’s. 40 acres of land was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Korfield as a memorial to the tragic death of their son. The first buildings to be built were the bunkhouses in 1971, followed by the main building in 1991. The camp focused on school and community, and holiday programs.
Due to the isolation of Camp Long Beach from the YMCA administrative office located in Canberra, and changes in industry legislation a decision was made to sell.
Now privately purchased, Mr. Barry Murchie became the new owner on the 21st December 2001. Between 2001 and 2006 Barry Murchie was the sole operator/manager of the centre until September 2006 when he brought in partners and hired a camp manager to expand the operations of the business.
Camp Longbeach is continuing the YMCA tradition by providing school camps, educational programs, outdoor recreation experiences and group accommodation.
