Barry Murchie - Owner and CEO
Over the past 26 years Barry has owned and operated several of his own businesses successfully before purchasing Camp Longbeach in 2001. With an idea to develop and expand the existing business in mind, Barry embarked on the reintroduction of a programmed camp experience for schools and interest groups. With the business growing each year Barry has established relationships with suppliers and staff turning Camp Longbeach into a destination of demand. In 2006 Camp Longbeach employed Liz Leyshan as a Program Director and has expanded even further the program and staff. In December 2006 an application for refurbishment and extensions of Camp Longbeach was lodged with the Department of Planning and we are currently processing the Development Application. A copy of the application is on this site.
Barry's Qualifications and training; Qualified Clerk of Works, Carpenter with Honors, Licensed Building Contractor, Qualified in small business, Senior First Aid, Grade 3 NSW Touch Referee, Qualified International Rugby League Coach, currently training for various outdoor education qualifications.
Joanne Coleman - Activity leader
Jo has been involved in outdoor and sporting activities for all of her life. As a result she has obtained a Bachelor of Education specializing in Physical education and geography. Jo has a passion for being in the outdoors and has pursued a number of adventurous directions. Her primary aim is to encourage and nurture peoples desire to participate in outdoor activities by providing an informative, safe, and fun experience! Jo's interests include, whitewater kayaking, rock climbing, camping, skiing, bushwalking and fishing
Joanne’s qualifications and training include a Bachelor of Education, Senior First Aid, training in Canoeing.
Josh Waterson – Activity Leader
Josh has traveled the globe as an expedition leader, film maker and journalist. He has competed in International Extreme Kayaking and International Freestyle events. Josh owns and operates his own Kayak Expedition Company in Patagonia, Chile and forever will seek new challenges and opportunities to work within the recreation industry. Josh is a keen surfer, sailor, fisherman and water lover.
Josh’s qualifications and training: Ba App Sc Business management (tourism major), Wilderness First Aid, canoe/kayak certificate in whitewater, Sea kayaking certificate, rafting guide international accreditation, swift water rescue technician, Open water diver license.
David Glendenning – Activity Leader
David is a marine biologist with a Bachelor degree in Science. He has over ten years experience in Aquatic Biology research and education with the NSW Fisheries and NSW TAFE. The Marine Discovery program is David’s main passion and specialty at Camp Longbeach. Other interests include snorkeling, SCUBA diving, surfing and kayaking.
David’s Qualifications and Training include: Bachelor in Marine Science, Senior First Aid, and training in Canoeing.
